Finally, after a whole year of conceptualisation and numerous revisions, the platform is finally ready to see the light of the world! Hi, we are the people from Freight, a multidisciplinary collective from Singapore and Freight Store is a product of our immense love for design and all things art.
We thought that while there are quite a number of design concept stores that are sprouting up recently, it never really extended towards the online realm. There are a number that sells designer products with excellent curation, but there isnt any that provided the same experience as a well designed concept store. The design excellence of the product did not extend alot into good photography, conceptual presentation of products or styling that complemented them, or did their design justice.
We wanted to create an environment that would provide the same immersive experience as that of stepping into a physical concept store. While web - stores have for the longest time presented their products in a "gallery view" format, there hasnt been deliberate efforts at crafting the "Gallery Experience":
A well curated art gallery often contain a diversity of art works that extends across different stylistic rendition of perhaps a common theme that binds the gallery together. Presentation of the pieces of art often involves careful and deliberate consideration of its placement (in space and in relation to another), the kind of light that would illuminate the piece and through careful negotiation of these factors across different pieces, a unique overarching aesthetic is constructed to tie the pieces together. The gallery is often minimal and never imposing, and it is through the meticulous consideration of details, and the aesthetic it creates, that not only represents the work well, but it elevates its worth.
It is this same experience that we would like to create. Through our multidisciplinary skill sets, we seek to construct an identity that could extend across every single aspect of the store - be it campaign videos or photos, the curation of clothes, the presentation, etc. In grounding an identity; a common theme, we strive to bind together the diverse aesthetics of these young designers, to create a platform that would represent and respect the design integrity of their products.
We recognise the potential in multi-disciplinary practices and we wanted to establish a platform that would allow this. Crafting a platform that brings together young designers across the region, we hope to promote the cross disciplinary synthesis of cultures and practices. We see the collaborative aspect of the store as a experimental playground whereby designers can have free exploration of their designs/ concepts, and for us, it allows us to expand our craft into a new environment. We would be launching a whole line of collaborative products between ourselves and the designers or between designers in the next collection. We would be on a constant lookout for new designers to hop onto this platform!
Campaign 001: ADRIFT
What is it that keeps us traveling, hoping and waiting? Dreams. Of fulfillment, love, deliverance… And that which follows us? Which can be forgiven but not forgotten? Memories. The two stretch across time and physical space; and bear a twisted duality of being both a vehicle for wistful escapism as well as a means of delusion and even self-destruction. Through the campaign, we set out to capture the ineffable.
More than Cargo, we ship ideas.
